Social Dimensions of Desertification Control

  • Project from: 1992 to 1995

The principle activities of this project involved the expansion of a preliminary annotated bibliography on the social aspects of desertification in French-speaking West and Central Africa, Asia and Latin America, and an analytical issues paper examining the principle conceptual and methodological questions related to the social dimensions of desertification. The impact of modernization and global integration on desertification processes was also investigated.

The project was carried out in collaboration with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and the Desertification Control Programme Activity Centre of UNEP.
